Steam bits
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/announcements/detail/1706188320692569744

  • 64-bit incoming?
  • It would be nice to finally stick a fork in i386 on modern linux. Too much legacy shit tho
    • Like a lot!
  • Just cuz the client may be a 64bit elf, doesn’t mean all games automagically become 64bit.
  • If the runtime worked perfectly, then this wouldn’t be an issue. But as it stands, you’re still going to have to have the 32bit libs for your graphics drivers installed.
  • Listen, I really don’t think it’s feasible to get most developers to produce 64 bit binaries of their 32 bit games. They’re just not gonna do it

Fallout
https://www.pcgamer.com/how-likely-are-you-to-play-a-game-if-its-not-released-on-steam/

  • So it begins.
  • They really really want to avoid the 30% Steam tax.
  • Hell, some of them might just want to avoid the dumpster fire that is the Steam store.
  • WINE configurations for each launcher \:D/
  • Interesting little nightmare, it’s going to be one.
  • I guess I should say might be an interesting little nightmare since the industry is going to watch the fallout from Fallout before doing a damn thing.
  • Steam needs competition, but not like this?
  • If not like this, then what? GOG? They can’t even begin to muster a single fuck about Linux.
  • This is not ideal, but it’s the only viable way that publishers have.
  • Or you have this relatively established newcomer which can shake things up…

Chips, bitch!
https://techcrunch.com/2018/08/09/discord-is-launching-a-game-store/

  • Old Man Venn™ looks slightly less crazy now!
  • Do I get le internet point for calling this three weeks ago on LGC Weekly?
  • Now, will it support the Linux?
  • Ya know, in the future?
  • I hope it will have Linux support at some point.
  • They seem to be doing the Humble/consoles thing of both selling games and letting you have others “for free” if you sub to PSPlus/Humble Monthly/Nitro.
  • They will be offering curated games, one month indie launch exclusives and all-you-can-nom Netflix like game service.
    • That’s going to be interesting. I wonder how it’s going to be received once it’s out in the wild
  • And there’s the rub. No linux support.
  • Apparently they’re seeking the canadian opinion
  • This is indeed going to be interesting to watch.
  • Dethroning Steam would be easy, and most of us know how to do it.
  • Unfortunately up until now we’ve only seen companies try to replicate the 10,000lb gorilla while looking to gain more control / profit
  • Not exactly concerned with making things better.
  • Discord has the infrastructure to pull this off.

Rocket Ban
|
https://www.rocketleague.com/news/new-ban-practices-season-4-rewards-update/

  • ‘Language Ban’ system, will automatically ban players from online matches when certain words — racial slurs, for example — are seen in reports filed by players.
  • Initial list of over 20 words and variants.
  • These bans will typically start at 24 hours, then escalate to 72 hours, one week, and finally, a permanent ban.
  • Wish I could get CCd on the upcoming appeal letters.

Celular Discharge
https://steamcommunity.com/games/588650/announcements/detail/1700558186803404592

  • So they’re saying that the game’s not done being developed, but its at 1.0 quality
  • Apparently next steps are more lore in the game and potentially a new game plus
  • Oh, good! Now, I can play it and rail on all the bugs without feeling like I’m being too harsh on an Early Access game.

1.0
https://steamcommunity.com/games/distance/announcements/detail/1699432921255257397

  • Believe it when I see it.
  • If they do actually release it I won 50 bucks.
  • Suck it overgrowth!
  • Well shit.
  • We’re out of whipping bo… hahahaha, kidding! *grabs SFV*

Speed teams
https://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=207140

  • Update is live along with new character DLC.
  • Fuck yes Cannon Fyodor
  • This mode is only useful for people not looking to actively sabotage their teammates.

Beseiged Mods
https://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=346010

  • They added an in-game mod loader with workshop integration
  • There’s a mass block painter as well
  • Host of bugfixes and balances

Not Forsaken
https://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=668980

  • Old game, getting remastered and being actively supported!
  • If only all games could see this kind of treatment when they get a Linux version
  • They added Vulkan support too
  • Is Icky butts gonna start adding vulkan to other old shit too? Mother of god…
    • Well, he is known for reliable ports, not performant ones.

Henti U
https://store.steampowered.com/app/909000/Hentai_University/

  • Its a worse looking huniepop with readier access to titties
  • Will valve decide to take it down? Spin the wheel of booga booga!
  • It’s a bit sad that a porn game actually has better defined system requirements than most shit on the steam catalogue

Cexy racer
https://store.steampowered.com/app/895560/Scifi_sexy_racer/

  • I gotta say, given the quality of SFM porn out there it kinda makes me sad that sexy games like this still look about as good as they did in 2006
    • Read not good
  • Why are they listing the controls on the store page?

Spooky Ghosts .com
https://store.steampowered.com/app/820620/Spooky_Ghosts_Dot_Com/

  • Sorta reminds me of a pixelated Luigi’s Mansion
  • Priced to sell at 5 bucks

Overcooked 2
https://store.steampowered.com/app/728880/Overcooked_2/

  • Zomg online multiplayer!
  • That might be the only thing that can justify the $20 price tag
  • That looks like a wicked-expensive android game.

News:

Xenko 3.0
https://xenko.com/blog/xenko-opensource-mit/

  • Another all in one development framework gets sauced
  • Looks like between UE4 and Godot’s success, more engines are starting to see the light. Praise Stallman!
  • This is the engine used to create Bravely Default+
  • I want someone to get it to the point when I can play Bravely Default on Linux.

Switch
https://github.com/richard-dp/xtrigger

  • It creates an event when a window spawns.
    • It also creates an event when a window dies.
    • Weird workaround for crashy shit?
  • This has very specific use.
  • One which I can’t seem to grasp.
    • Start-n-stop a compositor?

Low-latency life
http://onehouronelife.com/newsPage.php

  • Open source multiplayer survival game where your character lives for an hour, then you carry on with their progeny to progress through the skill tree.
  • Kinda odd seeing a pay for source thing. I like it

18 years, dude
https://www.holarse-linuxgaming.de/news/achtzehn_jahre_holarse_achtzehn_jahre_linuxspiele_linuxspiele_zu_gewinnen

  • Holarse is now of legal age.
  • To celebrate they are getting rid of drupal.
  • Ye olde linux gaming

Spacecraft?
https://github.com/Aaron-Sp/bds

  • Minecraft…IN SPAAAAAAAAACE
  • Builds on linux

Pak it in
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/installing-windows-apps-on-linux-is-about-to-get-a-lot-easier/
https://github.com/winepak/applications

  • Don’t like it but this is the future of gaming /w WINE.
  • The days of scripts and installers will soon be nothing more than a bad memory.
  • RIP Lutris.
  • To be fair, all Lutris needs to do is become a Hub for these winepaks and a repository for the tools used to create them, and it will stay relevant.
  • And it will certainly be interesting to see people trying to automate pulling a game from Steam (or pointing it at the .exe) and building the winepak off of it.
  • Welcome to the windows style of packaging games, isolated with all the components they need shipped with it.
  • Disk space is cheap though
  • Plus the simplicity of use means that we’re going to start seeing a lot more of this.
    • Possibly compounded by devs leaving steam?

Does It Launch

  • It launches, just not @ 1080 fullscreen.

Performance @ 1080

  • 60 @1080.
  • Mid 50’s @ 2160???!!!

Graphics

  • Eats a bag of dino dicks when trying to enter 1080 fullscreen.
  • Have to play in windowed or chuggy 2160 fullscreen.

Control

  • WASD == good.

Jordan:

Does It Launch

  • Yep

Performance @ 1080

  • Holds 60@UHD
  • On at 1080TI. Make of that what you will

Graphics

  • Yup, it shows up on screen.
  • It’s a 20 year old game

Control

  • It wasds

Pedro:

Does It Launch

  • Launches fine on my end, regardless of resolution and status of Fullscreen-ness

Performance @ 1080

  • Holds 60 at 1080p and 2160p, but there is some issue with frame timing.

Graphics

  • So much blood, there’s so much blood!
  • The sounds got a bit grating but they work just fine

Fun section:

Fun?:

  • Venn:
    • Never played the original Turok 2 but this was a pleasant expansion on the first one.
    • Plenty of weapons, plenty of gore.
    • Fast paced and no reloading.
    • Oh, oh… this has backtracking :(
    • Sorry kids, that is not my thing so hard it burns.
    • Fetch-quests in a FPS can DIAF.
    • A $20 fire at that.
    • Dying animations are a bit on the long side.
    • Good luck setting up a multiplayer match.
    • Unexplainable chugginess.
    • Did I mention the $20 price tag?
    • I’ll say this, people who grew up playing this seem to really like it and if you want some of that sweet nostalgia all over your face chest and neck go for it.
    • If you are Turok curious, pick up the first one, on sale.
  • Jordan
    • It’s alright
    • Run around, shoot dinosoids. Which sounds like some sort of anal blister
    • Lots of backtracking. Kinda makes you think about the levels
    • The AI is a wee dumb, but enemy placement is still pretty good
  • Pedro
    • It’s more Turok!
    • The level design, even if the teleporters make it seem a bit disconnected, actually makes everything loop back in on itself.
    • The sounds did get a bit grating, to the point where the voice and music got muted.
    • The grunting when you climb ladders.
    • The repetitive music.
    • I remember now why I used to mute music in videogames back then.
