I used to be a massive google reader user. It was heartbreaking when they closed it down. I then shifted to good 'ol reader however they did something scammy. The account was free at first, and unless I paid them I couldn't add new feeds. After that I spun up a Digital Ocean droplet for like $5/mo and installed TTRSS and haven't looked back.
It's mapped to my rss(dot)earlcameron(dot)com subdomain.

I thought this was an interesting anecdote.
