In all fairness Venn has a point that it's stupid that you pretty much need, as he said, the KDE Kitchen Sink to run it. That said, it still seems to be a great video editor. Although, it sounds like Openshot will run circles around Kdenlive when it has all the features of the "4 year old version" in 2030.
I have yet to have the stability problems you spoke about, so until it spite crashes on me, it seems like the kind of thing where you can just use whatever works for you and be fine. (like a lot of things in Linux seem to be)
