Odamex supports the free iwad Freedoom. It will even take the place of doom.wad or doom2.wad when connecting to servers as long as the level being played on that server is part of a pwad.

It has gotten better since the IDL moved to Odamex. Still we have our ups and downs when it comes to average player count. Building a community is difficult and it is certainly the biggest thing we struggle with.
