I know I’m a broken record here in Linux Gamecast forum… talking about Oldschool shooters all the time. I can’t help it, it’s the way I’ve always been. When I switched to Linux only, I thought that there were more like-minded Linux gamers… but, whatever.

After being incredibly disappointed by the lack of people I found in Xonotic, I went back to the game that had closest to what I would consider a “community” of the old twitch-shooter genre… Quakelive. This game frustrates me to no end. It mostly comes down to one thing… ‘air control’. In Quake 2 + 3 / Live, it’s kinda absent. It’s been a topic of debate for a while in all of the communities, and one of the things that led to the fragmentation of the Quake gamers. I sit firmly in the “Quakeworld/CPMA” gameplay category.

What pisses me off to no end, is how ID tends to dangle old movement styles in front of QL as some fucking carrot in front of the donkey, (Ass, in my case). During some Quake Live ‘trial periods’, they would test servers with versions of air control flags/options set for people to play. The inevitably take these away. I eventually quit playing the game altogether, you can’t put things in then take them back, I don’t fly with that mentality.

IF anyone is interested, I know probably not ( maybe Hyper_Eye) here’s an interesting thread about it:

I agree, Sore-Loser. You are so right. Your insight on such matters is outweighed only by your dashing good looks and manly musk.

I’ll check it out. Props on the heads up, yannanth.

Shame that Xonotic community is so sparse, the game has a lot of interesting and original things going for it
