just curious…has anyone ever “reflowed” a pcie gpu sucessufully? I have a both a hot air and an IR rework station for SMD work but have had limited success in real life with GPU cards. (my son’s gtx780 has artifacts and not sure worth the effort).

Artifacts are generally not the result of solder coming undone. They’re usually bad VRAM, which isn’t so easily fixed.

Solder coming undone usually renders the card dead, full stop, until a reflow is performed (assuming it works)

That being said, I have performed the reflow operation on a PS3, it works for a little while, but I can’t say whether a proper reflow station as you mention can make that more permanent.

Baking graphics cards is a bit like freezing HDD’s. Yeah, it works… 1% of the time. That said, it’s not like you can make it more broke.
