It’s, ya know, kinda creepy to have some big company know every page that you turned to in a PDF or ebook. And the fact that anyone who can use a packet sniffer could read this stuff too.
In Linux, the pre-installed software tends to not spy on you, and if it does (looking at you Ubuntu dash home) you can turn it off.
