    So, today I took out my soldering iron and fixed it so I not longer have to mess with xset or the scroll lock ever again. I took several pictures in case anyone wants to replicate what I did.

    1) take apart keyboard; 2 screws are hidden in the bottom feet on left/right side

    2) on the circuit board as seen in the photo below, desolder the transistor (in the red box), solder 2 wires at the green spots and solder a switch between the blue dots.

    3) cut a hole in the keyboard for the new physical switch

    4) with the switch in, put the keyboard back together.

    My Octane keyboard has a dedicated key to cycle through the different colors and turn off the backlighting.
