Im seriously considering upgrading (or side-grading depending on who ask) my computer to a FX-8350. While browsing the newer 990FX boards though, I noticed that all of them had Killer NICs in them (E220x). Anyone have experience with these NICs and if so how good do they actually work on Linux?

Herr Shrout reviews them here (on teh windows) but I’m not going to lie: they’re the least impressive bit of technology I’ve ever heard of. I mean a 486 can handle routing gigabit traffic at full speed. The idea that checking for new packets is slowing your games down: SOUNDBLASTER EXTIGY LEVEL TOTAL BS.

They are supported though, on kernel 3.10+ by the alx module. ref

Ive heard nothing but bad things about Killer through the years. But for some reason all the new AMD 990FX board manufactures decided that it’ll be a great idea to put them on their boards. Ill just have to go and revisit my options.

I have a Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 and I’ve had no issues with networking. None that were from my end, anyway.

Then again, this motherboard has a Realtek 8111F.
