Context: The LGC crew reviews Painkiller H&D, they aren’t big fans of Serious Sam

    – “So the final score for Painkiller H&D: 3 chairs” (reminder: reviewed by not serious sam fan guys)
    – “But if you’re not a Serious Sam fan, only 2 chairs”

Conclusion: “We do what the hell we want with those chairs.”

    Bonus soda:
    – “The loading times are so long you can make yourself a sandwich”
    – “Btw, if you’ve ran the game just once, the loading times are okay after that”
    – “But who cares about that, right ? We’re making our judgement on the first run *only*”

    Unaccounted4, you’re responsible for this ^^
Had you been here for the review, you would have complained that the game doesn’t run on you calculator and would probably taken down the score to the 2 chairs Jordan and Venn wanted.

If you don’t run the game in a while, the loading times are just as bad as the first time.

Now that’s just an outright falsehood. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is one of my favourite games. Serious Sam (at least the Sam I remember, not before moving it to permadesert) was a fun silly romp through hordes of baddies. Painkiller is alright and all, but part of what made Sam so great was the dialogue and sheer ridiculous stuff.

Yeah, I should have been more specific and said Serious Sam 3 since it’s what Painkiller is competing with on Steam Linux.

I don’t really get why SS3 gets so little love on the show, no it’s not all brown and no, not every level takes place in a desert (but it’s in Egypt, so yeah quite a lot of them here). The game still has its fair share of silly stuff too.
That said, Painkiller has a lot in common with Serious Sam but there are many aspects that make a big difference. The overall pace is faster and the controls have more in common with Quake 3 than Serious Sam (mostly because of bunny hopping).

    ^THIS

That said, I did not ding it a chair for loading times since it was noted in the beta.

    Around the 2:06 mark
