MemberStraight to the point: what are your thoughts on the topic? Real problem or more of a overblown issue at this point? I’m bringing this up as Cd Projekt seems to think its a major (among the others).

KeymasterCD Projekt can eat a bag of unwashed dicks! They’d rather jump on the “Linux fragmentation” bandwagon than actually admitting they’re scared Linux won’t give them as much money as they want.
In the words of Ryan C. Gordon:

(Mythbusting starts at 04:39)If they want to keep being cunts, then by all means… I’m not about to transform into a tampon.

KeymasterUltimately, the core system components don’t really change from distro to distro. Suret there is some variance, which is why you set a minimum requirement like Valve did with Steam Runtime.
Speaking of which, if you’re targeting SteamOS as your platform, you don’t even need to worry about fragmentation.

KeymasterYip. Build a NVIDIA powered Steam boxen and test on that.
When Steam for Linux first rolled out Valve was all Ubuntu 12.04 of GTFO. Guess what, it worked. The first gen of Steamy Linux games (for the most part) worked. Valve would do good revisiting that idea /w SteamOS.

MemberLove the video, I was hoping to hear it from someone with experience. In about a year since i switched to Linux i tried about 10 distros and had no problem other then maybe some libs missing (easy fix for a newbie). But after a long discussion with a guy that was saying that its a problem because you can’t game on RHEL (??) I needed some sanity and reassurance…

KeymasterDo you use Windows 2000 to game? That’s how retarded that argument is.
Although, even in RHEL you can just update glibc plus a couple of other libs and you’re good to go.

KeymasterRHEL is like Windows server. You could use both for camping but FFS, why?

MemberBut you not only could game on windows server, but also RHEL is not a server system, its for desktops so it counts as a normal distro. So yeah, that was a long conversation…
