I just scored 5 x HP proliant server DL380 G4 after a decommisioning of win2003 network, was wondering if anyone has had experience with linux on these? I previously played with G2/3 ones running CENTOS5 ok, any reccomendations on distro to use? I remember having issues in the past with Debian and Ubuntu server on these badboys. :ugeek:
I do on that G series….. I had the G5 Dl360 servers (2) and installed Opensuse on them with out Issue using the HP software to setup the servers. It has a Linux setup.
Thanks, Freejack,
Yep, downloaded Smartstart 8.5×64 already, seems to have a preference for RHEL and Suse, so may go that way….may look into getting CENTOS6, seems do-able according to the youtubes!
Progress report:
Centos 6.5 went in like a $2 hooker, no probs..
Ubuntu 12.04 was bitch about NIC and bootloaders, had to include broadcom NIC drivers and redirect grub install to /dev/ccss/c0d0, but then all good.
really don’t know what to do with them all…may donate to students….
