Which controler is the best for MAME?

    So, I’m getting a 4th “Raspberry Pi” type of computer (faster than the Raspberry Pi; called an Odroid) and I’d like to make a MAME like console / gaming system with MAME. Which controller would be the best to use? Obviously the xbox360 seems to have the most support, but I’m curious what would be the best for MAME; any ideas?
