Opening up online multiplayer gaming across different platforms will remove a big restriction in console gaming, but it will also create a conversation around which titles should allow PC gamers to play against consoles. A mouse and keyboard can still have many advantages over a gamepad for first-person shooters, so it’s a new challenge that game developers will have to balance for cross-network play.

Console players chose to play FPS games with a controller so why can’t we choose to crush them merciless with a keyboard and mouse? Are game developers predicting that too many butts will get hurt?

And if developers weren’t inherently lazy, they could code a setting into any game to allow players to limit multiplayer queuing to the same platform if the latter so desired.
