As with windows 8; the decision that people want their computer to be similar to their smart phone is, for me anyway, a misconception. I feel that Unity and Gnome 3 are in the same mindset; that people want an iconic view of all the applications all at once. Then again, I grew up with DOS and command line Linux. I can type far faster than I can use a mouse to achieve the same thing. Maybe I’m just an old relic from the past, but I never saw any problem with how Gnome 2 did things.?

I started using computers around Windows 3.11, so I’m the hardcore traditional desktop fan.

Yes, GNOME 2 was the bomb. No questions asked, no quarter given.

Metro/GNOME3/Unity/etc, can suck my hairy balls.

I may sound like a heathen here, but Windows 7’s Aero (imo) presented the pinnacle of desktop usability/friendliness/prettiness. Maybe that’s why I can’t stray from KDE for too long.

I’m currently happy with tiling manager. Kept switching between KDE and Cinnamon for ages then went fuck it and I liked it. Before all of that Gnome2 was great. Before that I was just command line.

You can drop me into any WM or DM. 5min later I will have 20+ terminal windows running.

I call bullshit. You’d be rockin’ default steambox Unity and not XFCE for the last decade if it dint matter at all to ya.

One of the those open terminals… #apt-get gitdafukoutahere Unity
    #apt-get makegonow safe_compfy_xfce safe_comfy_xfce_xtras

    Mmm I love this thread.

After this can we start a conversation about our feelings and stuff?
