Steam: News

Steam game recording

  • It works after I change the hotkey to something new.

  • GPU acceleration doesn’t work on NVIDIA.

  • Export gives you 1080p h264.

  • Played around with it on Nv and AMD.

  • Something is borked with the 5600G if the Tomb numbers are to be believed.

  • I want this to make hardware encoding on AMD better and it has no reason not to, since the Deck is all AMD.

  • Maybe Linux will be better at AMD encoding than Windows in the not too distant future.

  • Well, it does work well enough on the 7800xt

  • Handles UHD@60 reasonably well. No real performance hits on CPU vs GPU encode

  • Would like some of that AV1 tho

  • Apparently this is the same clip record that is in DOTA.

Controller Stats

  • The older I get the more I find myself looking for controller support in a game.

  • I’m surprised the DualShock/DualSense share is that high

  • Most people on Windows are SOL when it comes to getting them to work unless they use either Steam Input or DS4Windows

  • Then again, the DS4 is my favorite controller so far

  • I too was a little sad about dualshock representation, but I get it. Them’s expensive

  • Only 10% of controller use are steam decks, but it’s also a whole ass computer that recently came out

  • Gentle reminder that valve is giving out steam input for “free” (30%)

Steamy Hori

  • No rumble, no haptics.

  • No areolas and that left analog stick is in the wrong place!

  • I guess the thought here is that japanese audiences prefer a playstation-style layout.

  • It’s about $50, but it will only be available in Japan this summer.

  • When the hell are we getting a Steam Sidewinder!?

Rookie numbers

  • I have 179 unplayed games.

  • 564 and counting.

  • Did you know the Summer sale is on?

  • And they have a Special Deals section for them deep discounts? https://store.steampowered.com/sale/special_deals

    • That’s a limited selection but it’s a step in the right direction.

  • There is a market to be tapped for those of us who don’t need another game to not finish / never play.

  • …but we gonna pick it up because 90% off.

  • Bundles also play a big part in this I figure

  • Lots of folks pick up bundles for one or two games and the rest they’ll never even think of touching

Top of May

  • Notice how ITT popped up on the list.

  • It’s almost as if EA dropped the launcher so it would work on Deck.

  • Very happy to see Selaco be as popular as it is

  • There’s even a porn game on there, because it has survival elements

  • Hades is there cuz there are still very horny people who don’t want to play hentai games

Oh

  • Ah, that’s why we never got Proton on MACs.

  • That relationship has been strained since the 90s.

  • VALVe gave Apple two chances with the last one actually sticking for a good bit

  • But since VALVe can’t count to 3, I wonder if this is it for macos?

  • See a bunch of my points from last week

  • But no, Valve has to go out of their way to support apple

  • Always good to see Becky pop up from time to time.

Game Updates

Going for Deck (RTheren)

  • 64bit client

  • New Steamworks

  • Deck fixes and controller improvements

  • That all sounds good!

  • I wonder if it still crashes if you just play a bunch of levels back to back like it used to

  • 15 community levels.

  • Haptics on Deck.

Akhenaten 0.22

  • That fork of Julius but for Pharaoh rather than Caesar

  • You can dock your ships now, giggity

  • There’s a flatpak!

  • Empire logic has its own class now, which I guess means you can have more detailed behavior of NPC sides. For now it means boats work

News:

555 Explicit

  • It’s not in beta anymore

  • I get a bit of wistful nostalgia for these now.

  • If you missed the beta release it’s time to get playing.

  • Wayland explicit sync in EGL.

  • GSP firmware.

  • Ability to select between the proprietary and open kernel modules.

  • EGL instead of GLX for NvFBC so that thing with the hacked drivers should work again.

  • You know the one I’m talking about, in OBS.

OBS Studio 30.2 Release Candidate 1

  • Linux support for native NVENC encoder.

  • AV1 for NVENC.

  • Shared texture support for QuickSync and VA-API.

  • QT Fusion style.

GOG Lunacy

  • GOG would like to take a moment and remind everyone that Luna exists.

  • Still not in Portugal…

  • DRM Free + Super DRM == Regular DRM?

  • Finally someone other than Microsoft is trying this.

  • Was amazon gaming desperate or was gog?

  • I guess this is one way to get folks to try Luna who would otherwise never give it a look

  • Save syncing is handled via gog galaxy

  • This is a bid to get some games on Luna.

  • Seriously, they have 40.

  • Stadia pissed all over the streaming party and people know what happens to their games when a streaming service nopes.

  • And if you were unaware, Luna works on Linux as long as you are rocking Chrome 86+.
