  • Kidnapping. It gets shite done.

  • I like how he wiped the forums (again) thinking he could remove the post from VALVe

  • Also, why are people thanking Valve for doing a basic service?

    • because stockholm syndrome

    • Gamer Gratitude, Jim Sterling did a bit on it and I agree with what he said.

  • WOW this thing as alpha

  • Plenty of bugs to go around but the mechanic of interfering with the game’s mechanics is actually pretty damn interesting.

NVIDIA 337.19 BETA

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/75340/en-us

  • Added nvidia-settings command line controls for over- and under-clocking attributes.

  • Fixed several cosmetic issues in the clock control user interface of nvidia-settings.

    • ^LIES!

      • Kind of a BS update regardless

      • Eh, the CLI will be useful for people making a proper interface for OC

Open speed

http://www.linuxsystems.it/2014/05/radeonsi-awesome-beats-catalyst/

  • That title is about as blown over proportion as your average Phoronix article.

    • Oh they’re using the phoronix test suite… I guess that explains that.

  • Xonotic and OpenArena are the only games with which the radeonsi branch is faster than Catalyst.

  • Unigine benches and Unvanquished still perform much better with fglrx.

  • Also, HyperZ is  disabled in Mesa 10.2 which is the current mainline version for most distros. It’ll only be available in version 10.3. But this will only impact the 7000 series and up.

WINE

SuperTuxKart’s new graphical engine

http://supertuxkart.blogspot.com/

  • Out GSoC 2013 student Lauri Kasanen started to improve Irrlicht, which is a third-party open source rendering engine we have been using since STK 0.7. He added support for shaders, and a lot of additional features to be used by track designers

  • The one thing that could make this project take off THE ONE FK MOTHERING THING is not updated graphics. It’s online multiplayer.

    • But… Look at all the pretty shaders!

Takedown notice: The game

http://www.starryexpanse.com/

  • From their FAQ:

    • Does Cyan Worlds know about you?
Yes! That’s the coolest part of the whole thing; Cyan Worlds seems to really like us, they’ve offered us their support, and we have their blessing to continue. We’re living out our fan dreams.

    • That’s nice of Cyan. Although considering having fans do your work for you is cheaper than actually investing money yourself, you can see why they’d allow it.

  • Unreal Engine 4-based realRiven.

  • Shared texture packs:

    • Quick start for new maps

    • Less resource management for mapper

  • Cleaned up kill/assist reporting

  • Overhaul of audio system and further bugfixes

OpenOMF

http://omf2097.github.io/openomf/

  • I played this shite in the DOS ages.

  • I played this in 96-97, it came free with one of those 300+ games CDs you could buy.

Shiny / Sounds

V-

  • Can’t really fault it for being a 10+ year old Game with appropriate graphics for the time

  • That being said…OW MY FUCKING EYES WHAT THE FUCK

P-

  • Graphics do not hold up. Dev says there’s an HD texture version coming out soon, which also supports 60FPS and more resolutions beyond 800×600. (Game currently runs at 800×600 – 20FPS regardless)

  • Background music sent me on my way down nostalgia lane. Still lovin’ it!

Control

V-

J-

  • Game from 1998 and it recognizes my PS2 Dual Shock exactly as I have it setup on Steam. It’s easy to tell when devs use SDL properly, innit?

  • Still need mouse to navigate the menus, etc.

FUN

V-

J-

P-

  • Awesome background music and an attempt at open world driving from 1998. Better than most open world games coming out for Linux nowadays. (eg: the 30X9 series)

  • It’s very outdated in the graphics department and the Multiplayer option had to be taken out because of how 90’s tech-dependent it was. Dev says he’ll re-introduce Multiplayer when he can figure out a way to do it properly.

  • The game’s manual can be found on its website (http://univang.com/pages/files_en.html) and trust me, if you want to give this a proper go, you’re gonna need it.
