Interfacing Linux: Record DNxHD With OBS

In this quick-and-dirty how-to I’m going to show you how to record video in OBS that can be imported directly into Davinci Resolve (free edition) on Linux.

BIG HONKING NOTE: This will not work with OBS Studio 25.0.8 or below. You will need to compile OBS from source in order to test this.

Settings > Output > Recording

Container Format: mov
Video Bitrate: 290000Kbps
Keyframe Interval: 1
Video Encoder: dnxhd
Audio Bitrate: 2304 Kbps
Audio Encoder: pcm_s24le

You should now be able to record 1080p 60 video using DNxHD 290. This will import directly into the free version of Davinci Resolve.

If you are seeing a flashy red screen saying “Media Offline” inside of Resolve you somehow missed the big honking note up top.
