Linux Powered SteamBox 360 MKII

You may remember the SteamBox 360, either from that post awhile back or from the fact that I don’t shut up about it. Whichever the case, it is back in its scuffed up plastic shell and this time it even packs a dedicated GPU.

Big thanks to shatrealm denizen and Patreon extraordinaire RTheren, for supplying not just the low-profile Zotac GeForce GTX 1650 but also the riser cable allowing me to plug it in on the completely wrong side of the motherboard. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have probably mounted the motherboard on the bottom originally.

With that said, this little jet engine (for that is what it sounds like when the GPU is going full tilt) can now perform very much like one of the big boys. Namely, the performance is very similar to El Cheapo but those pretty graphs will have to wait. You can still get an idea of the performance level by looking at the results in the video, just ignore the frame pacing issues. There’s only so much a BlackMagic Intensity Pro can do at 29.97 FerPS!

Here’s a breakdown of the specs for your eyeballs:

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 2400G CPU Cooler Noctua NH-L9a-AM4
RAM 2 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz Case XBox 360

Keep your eyes peeled for the full performance breakdown and some swanky photographs!
