MSI N770 TF 2GD5/OC –

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-N770-TF-2GD5-OC/dp/B00CZ58WUI

  • Essentially a more powerful GTX 680 for less money, and only 14% less powerful than the GTX 780, which is priced $250+ more than the GTX 770.

  • Runs OOTB on Linux

  • It crushes all available Linux titles @ 1080 including Metro: Last Light

Colour key: Venn Jordan Pedro

Steam News:

HL-2 beta trips the rift

http://steamcommunity.com/games/220/announcements/detail/1892930523506809570

  • It works? Nooooope!

Megabyte Punch adds Linux port to Steam

http://store.steampowered.com/app/248550

  • Its actually pretty fun, smash bros meets mega man

  • Couch multiplayer only, which kind of sucks unless you have a steambox hooked up to a TV

Wasteland 1

http://store.steampowered.com/app/259130/

  • Sooo it’s using Dosbox?

    • Yes

  • I want Wasteland 2 though. Granted it’s going to be another Unity game, but it has a hell of a lot bigger budget than the average.

Estranged

http://www.iamestranged.com/play

  • The install will confuse the heck out of the average ARCH user.

  • Gets a little herky-jerk when looking around

    • Noticed that as well

  • ARCH! I still had to download 4.6GB worth of Singleplayer Source SDK 2013

  • Get some random freezes too when changing areas

  • Source engine still looks pretty good these days

News:

331.20

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/69372/en-us

  • Added support for NVIDIA OpenGL-based Framebuffer Capture (NvFBCOpenGL)

    • Think FRAPS for Linux

  • Added GPU utilization reporting to the nvidia-settings control panel.

  • Some are seeing a minor performance boost.

AMD lands Hawaii GPU support on Linux 3.13

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied/linux/commit/?id=8d0a2215931f1ffd77aef65cae2c0becc3f5d560

  • In my grandspawn’s time, there will come a moment where I build a new PC, install linux on it and everything will work out of the box.

Lets take a brief moment to laugh at stupid people

http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/11/12/living-with-linux-how-open-source-os-gaming-stacks-up-against-windows/

  • “What I’m looking for from Linux is a relatively easy experience. Terminal, the command-line interface, might be a powerful tool, but I left my knowledge of its inner workings back with my 28 inch waistline”

    • Sooo you quit learning and became a blogger? Gotcha.

    • Oh wait! You’re still a print magazine? Let me laugh even harder.

  • I love to read about the generalized games media experiences with Linux and how they all go for Ubuntu and it shits all over itself.

Humble Store

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/eurotrucksimulator2_storefront

  • I yoinked hooker murder simulator and the Steam key process was ..painless.

  • Humble, if you were still the DRM-free cross-platform loving company of old I would give you a pass. Thing is, you became just another faceless store and we already have that …it’s called Steam.

    • Also, Steam doesn’t bundle WINE games and tries to pass them off as a Linux game. (yet)

Fields of war launches

http://www.thermalerosion.com/news/2013/11/10/fields-of-war-has-launched

  • We played the alpha ages ago.

  • They claim “Epic 100 vs. 100 battle” but i’ve never seen more than ten people playing.

  • I’d be all over 200 people Multiplayer Mechwarrior… This isn’t it though.

Pandora: First Contact Launches

http://pandora.proxy-studios.com/

  • Civilization with a sci-fi do-over.

  • Inspired by another Sid Meyer’s game, Alpha Centauri.

  • It’s got some Sim City inspired features as well.

  • The last feature on the list is basically written consent to cheat your ass off.

  • €23.99 or $29.99 US.

Makes with the working

V-

  • Since the last update i’ve only ran into the game naming bug

J-

  • Runs, but controller support is flakey, have to constantly reassign controls for gamepads

P-

  • Random crashes with the prop drivers

Total-

Shiny / Sounds

V-

  • I like the music, hell, I can tolerate the voice work.

  • The shiny, while impressive for an indie team is meh at best.

J-

P-

  • If the boss fight proved anything is that the game reuses sound effects to exhaustion and beyond.

Total-

Control

V-

  • Unlike everyone else, zero control issues.

J-

  • Not a big fan of the control scheme.   Awkward on a controller and painful on keyboard and mouse

P-

  • Controller settings will reset themselves for no reason.

  • In neither of our Playas videos was I able to actually spin 360º. If I was able to, the game would crash sooner or later.

Total-

FUN

V-

J-

P-

  • I see where they were going with this, but when it comes to execution it falls short of ideal.

  • Linux needs a good RPG, this one still is not it. Better than Legends of Aethereus, I’ll give it that. Still not good enough.

Final –

  • Wait for the Steam Winter Sale to come around and buy it when it’s 75% off or something.
