Wazzat: Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to 1988’s Wasteland, the first-ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG and the inspiration behind the Fallout series. Until Wasteland, no other CRPG had ever allowed players to control and command individual party members for tactical purposes or given them the chance to make moral choices that would directly affect the world around them.

Makes with the working

V-

  • Had a hiccup where the map rendered solid black but it only happened once.

J-

  • Cloud sync worked with a unity game for once!

Shiny / Sounds

V-

  • Considering the engine the game looks fantastic. Brown …everywhere

  • I was a bit confused about WTH they would use motion blur in a TBS

  • Audio is is hella snooze inducing but the voice work is above average.

J-

  • I always thought that infinity engine games aged rather gracefully

  • This reminds me of a slightly nicer looking infinity engine….done in unity

  • Voice acting is decent too

P-

  • The graphics, while I get it was an art choice, look dated.

    • So dated in fact, that I don’t get why I need to play the game on close to the lowest settings to get 30FPS.

  • Background music is Mark Morgan showing the world he’s still got it.

    • It sounds like Fallout 1 and 2 had a cowboy baby.

  • The live action intro cutscene was, in my opinion, out of place. It looked “off” regardless of how many times I saw it.

    • Dan Swick on Twitter asked if I had thought it was as much an anachronism as he did.

      • After googling “anachronism”, I have to agree.

Control

V-

  • Hard to FK this one up.

J-

  • If you’ve played baldur’s gate, you know exactly how this works

P-

  • Considering Brian Fargo was working at Black Isle at the time, this is more like Icewind Dale.

    • WHICH CONTROL THE EXACT FUCKING SAME

FUN

V-

  • I wanted to like it, I genuinely did.

  • I didn’t go into this thinking “great, another stupid RTS game” no, it was “if any RTS can change my mind organ this will be the one!”

  • ..it didn’t

  • P-man will get into detail but once I realized you had to micromanage I noped so HARD I might have pulled something.

J-

  • Honestly, this isn’t the game I want.    I want Torment goddammit!

  • Not really the fault of this game.   It plays about as well as you’d expect

P-

  • Now I remember why I didn’t like Icewind Dale/Baldur’s Gate as much as Fallout1/2 and Neverwinter Nights.

  • This is the kind of game that makes me want to micromanage each and every aspect of my characters… and there’s 4 of them!

  • The OG Fallouts and NwN only had 1 main character that you had to worry about.

  • Icewind Dale/Baldur’s Gate and now Wasteland 2 forced me to micro-manage an entire party. And that is a lot of time spent doing the BS instead of actually playing the game!

  • Other than that, awesome Linux RPG if you have the PC to withstand it.
