Steam: News

TF2 Banhammer

  • After dropping to mostly negative for the first time in the history of ever.

  • Team Fortress 2 game bans are permanent, non-negotiable, and are not removed by Steam Support.”

    • Whoever wrote that was maaaaad.

    • If you’re gonna bitch about wanting them gone, then no one gets back in!

  • VALVe doesn’t like attention and this #FixTF2 thing has been garnering a lot of it for a long time now

  • Zero tolerance for botting/cheating is the probably the easiest thing for valve to implement

  • Skuttlebut is that this was mostly a manual ban wave

  • Can’t find anything about the number of accounts

  • Something like this is not conceived and implemented overnight.

  • They have probably been working on it for quite some time.

The Droid you’re looking for

  • Bringing android support into steam would be interesting.

    • How does Valve feel about being a frontend for the play store?

  • That’s how you get Forkknife and roblox on Deck.

  • Waydroid is legitimately really nice

  • When he says it’s almost like native performance, he’s not kidding.

  • I can run Android games on my passively cooled chromebook better with Waydroid, than in the official Chrome OS android container thing.

  • And it doesn’t take a full minute to load the container.

Valve Fighter Turbo ALPHA II Championship Edition

  • Who would be in Super Steam Bros?

    • Yeah, that was my first thought too.

    • The closest thing Valve has to iconic characters are Gordon, Barney and the Team Fortress doofs

    • Maybe try and expand some of their DOTA2 character recognizability?

    • Turn them into the SSB obscure capcom character class

    • Alyx, Chell, GladOS, Wheatley, the G-Man… and others

  • Is GabeN unlockable?

  • Wasn’t there supposed to be a big Blade Symphony remake/remaster at some point?

  • Given the original one used the Source Engine, it’d make sense.

New Games

Miniparty

  • Multiplayer party game.

  • Say the line, Bart.

  • We have Stumble Buddies at home…

  • 9 game mode screenshots and in the trailer but only 7 modes listed

  • When they say “LAN” do I need to set up wireguard to play on the internet?

News:

Nexus Mods Alpha

  • It’s an AppImage.

  • Was able to login to my account, not that I have anything.

  • AppImage is good!

  • The important thing after getting the mimetype correctly set to get the browsers to just pass along nexus links to it, is to easily let people have those mod collections that the community has put together.

  • For games like Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas it can be a pretty big selling point to allow people a 1-click install of an entire modlist.

  • I too launched it and was pleasantly surprised when nothing caught fire

  • This is how you get someone like me to play around with mods.

Rolling Dolphins

  • No Dolphin 6.0 for you. Now you get rolling releases

  • All thanks to the magic of Continuous integration and “easy to use” git merge tools

  • The new logo is barely distinguishable from the old one but good on y a

    • It’s more saturated

    • The geometry also seems a lot less rigid

    • It’s more round

  • Yeah, it’s probably good if you still release a roll up at some point that you’d call a good option for people to install first.

  • Then let them keep up with the updates if they want to

AVX Time

  • They joys of implementing 256bit avx on 128 SVE bit hardware cuz no chip makers are currently offering 256bit sve

    • Still, as per the blog post bad AVX is generally better than no AVX

  • Thanks to brainy wonderkind Alyssa Rozenweig the hacky solution is now 10% faster

  • Got some menu screenshots of Forspoken, Death Stranding, Monster hunter, metro 2033, crysis 3 and Hellblade 2

  • Don’t start your article with Forspoken… Let Squeenix’s failures languish in obscurity.

  • The three other games after that are fine. Great, even!

  • Heck, that’s Impressive even eeking out 27FerPS in Heckdivers

Flat subscriptions

  • Non-mobile video game subscription spending is only up 1% compared to last year.

  • And when you hear the word subscriptions, you think Gamepass.

  • Gamepass is great, but it has killed game sales on xbox since people will wait for it to show up on Gamepass.

  • At this point, everyone who wants it has it and nobody is buying an xbox for Game Pass.

  • I’m curious how many PC users have Gamepass and no xbox.

  • That’s why Hi Fi rush can be a critical success and tank financially

  • “Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty sent an email to staff”

    • I want such a callipygous name too!

  • None of this means that they’re losing money, just that they’re not making exponentially more money than before

  • Are we going to see stuff like Gamepass’ price increase, killing more affordable tiers and putting all the eggs in premium tiers?

  • We see this in mobile games already, netflix is doing the same.
