Steam News:

Steam Switch Pro
https://steamcommunity.com/games/353370/announcements/detail/1648757912601251834
https://twitter.com/flibitijibibo/status/991801096543891457

  • So much for that open source project from last week
  • Flibit does raise some valid concerns about steam input though
  • $60? For that?
  • Just assuming people will want a layout a certain way isn’t ideal.
  • Japan likes to have X swapped with Y and A with B.
  • It’s the same on my 8Bitdo
  • Yet, I’d rather have the layout like the XBox/Steam controller would.
  • During the power outage I was playing axiom verge on my switch. There is an adjustment period going from standard Nintendo control to standard FNA/PC control

Apocryph
https://store.steampowered.com/app/596240/Apocryph_an_oldschool_shooter/

  • This thing runs like absolute poo.
  • This could be the STRAFE of Hexen, but it seems to have even more issues.

Steamnoth
https://store.steampowered.com/app/599390/Battle_for_Wesnoth/

  • It would be nice if steam introduced a pay what you want button for open source games.
  • Wesnoth has been around forever and could use some financial support, or at least recoup the hundred bucks they spent to get on steam
  • Better yet, pull a good guy Valve and let established open sauce games on Steam for gratis.
  • Or if you do pay what you want, do it like Itch does and not like Kickstarter.
  • The latter will just cause more animosity when certain projects don’t deliver.

Linux Mod for Manos
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1329533230

  • Combat free mod created by Cheeseness.
  • For me it’s like regular Manos minus the semi-fun parts.

That multiplayer beta
https://stardewvalley.net/blog/

  • Prepare yourself for the most snooze inducing LGC live stream… in the world.
  • They got that steam integration, and it’s fna, so I’m curious if they’re using Flibit’s sauce
  • Either way, expect bugs

Moment of Xen
https://steamcommunity.com/games/362890/announcements/detail/1669024110904289413

  • It no longer launches on this end so it has that going for it.
  • Don’t get to excited folks, it’s just the engine, not the levels
  • They say they’ll drop Xen after the next “Engine” release, whatever that means.

Tomb Beta + PPA
https://steamcommunity.com/app/391220/discussions/0/1694919808737945453/

  • Don’t fix my problems.
  • Might minimize spite-nopes for others.

Beseiged Transform Lerp (Empty)
https://steamcommunity.com/games/346010/announcements/detail/1664521145479365353

  • Now you can rebind the controls on your murder machine
  • Alt-f4 to win the game

West of London
https://store.steampowered.com/app/336940/Basingstoke/

  • We talked about this a few months ago. It finally came out
  • Stealth roguelike where you only have 1hp
  • 1 hit kill could be fun or it could make the game really repetitious

Mayblazers
https://store.steampowered.com/app/621970/Trailblazers/

  • I’m down for a proper Wipeout style game

Chewy Brick
https://store.steampowered.com/app/709390/Chewbrick/

  • Brick Stimulator finally got that HD remaster.

People under glass
https://store.steampowered.com/app/600480/Megaquarium/

  • So it is just Theme-quarium
  • Back when I was wee I played the shit out of sim safari. This just seems like that for aquariums.
  • Something tells me you’ll have more fum getting high and going to an actual aquarium

WOW!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/839310/Signal_Simulator/

  • Can’t stop the signal?
  • Jodie foster simulation
    • Aka contact the game

News:

RIP GPP
https://hothardware.com/news/nvidia-ends-geforce-partner-program

  • Misinformation from contracts that contained a NDA?
  • Yup, looks like the bad publicity is bound to cost more than the extortion profits
  • Its OK nvidia, you still dominate the enterprise and scientific GPU market
  • I really like how they claimed this was a “distraction”… my arse-organ. “The rumors, conjecture and mistruths go far beyond its intent. Rather than battling misinformation, we have decided to cancel the program.”

    • And by not addressing any of those concerns you’re just cementing people’s beliefs in the underhanded bs you were trying to pull.
  • And you may claim now that you weren’t trying to change established brands to include only NVidia products, but some makers did.
Asus created AREZ for AMD products smack in the middle of this. Was it a coincidence?

396 not Beta
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/133859/en-us

  • Fixes some of the SPIR-V nonsense.
  • Sam BFE into the spiders nest is now holding over 100%.

Out of Order Rasterization
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=0737c1e3a603e13ce9764ff5432e332b233c4b9d&anz

  • Apparently it’s only a 1% performance bump, but it seems to be across the board
  • Conservative implementation but seems to improve performance across the board.
  • Even more good news for people using RADV

Dolphinology
https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2018/05/02/legend-dolphin-lens-between-worlds/

  • Dolphin has moved to QT full time and wxWidgets will be dropped in short order.

Might & Magic 8 in Unity
https://github.com/pjasicek/OpenMM8

  • Homeboy’s made some decent progress in half a year
  • Most of the maps are loadable and there’s even a basic ui

Unreal update
https://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/announcements-and-releases/1469449-4-19-2-hotfix-released

  • Apparently there was an synchronisation issue under Linux involving the start time call and the second object
  • The rest is just standard bugfixes that affected pretty much everybody

Makes with the working

Venn-CHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • Yip, you are losing a Chair on the inexplicable frame drops.
  • Admittedly it does not really impact the gameplay but HOW?
  • Thought it was due to some network fkery but it’s right there in forever alone mode as well

Jordan-CHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • The frame drops, they are real
  • This is a pixel game BTW

Pedro- CHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • In some levels the FerPS drop down to 15 and don’t recover until one your characters dies.
  • On some latter levels the FerPS drop gets worse.

Total-

Shiny / Sounds

Venn-CHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • It’s hipster-pixel bullsh*t but well done hipster-pixel bullsh*t.
  • Character blindness is legit.

Jordan-CHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • Everything is competently done. The Characters all have unique designs, the designs are cute, but a bit unremarkable
  • Pretty obvious they got the composer back from Rogue Legacy.
  • I think RL had the better sound track though
  • Guns go pew and shields go smash

Pedro-CHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • The “sharpening” filter makes everything look odd.
  • I get that it’s only supposed to be for people who don’t want the pixels
  • But it doesn’t look so good.

Control

Venn-CHAIRCHAIRCHAIRCHAIR

  • Steam controlla OOTB with correct prompts.
  • It’s a side-scrolling brawler so yeah, it’s hard to cock up button mashing.

FUN

Venn-CHAIRCHAIR

  • In multiplayer it’s a little bit of alright.
  • Single player is hella boring with a big heaping side of boring.
  • Leveling up the different classes is neat… but.
  • Calling them separate classes is a bit of a s t r e t c h.
  • Combat works but the whole colour coating baddies in single player is nonsense.
  • Thank you for allowing the ability to skip cutscenes.
  • I lost interest when it became bullet-hell The Game ™. <- Look at this clever motherf*cking GDocs auto inserting a ™ from T M.

Jordan-CHAIRCHAIR

  • Honestly, multiplayer is what saves this game
  • Single player is manageable, you just only ever have one person at a time on the screen
  • Beyond that, it basically turns into a bullet hell, and that’s not really my jam
  • Throw in some friends getting curb stomped by area denial and you have yourself an alright time, and online multiplayer does work
  • Funwise it’s still middle of the road

Pedro-CHAIRCHAIR

  • I didn’t hate the singleplayer.
  • But damn those frame drops kill my investment with a quickness.
  • I can take low FerPS if they’re constant or even intentional.
  • They’re neither here.
  • And it gets bad, to the point where you could probably make a powerpoint presentation with a better framerate.
