Steam: News
- This is one of them big ones, any changes you made to the rootfs are going to be nuked!
- The performance improvements VALVe have been doing for the desktop version of the new big picture mode seem to have helped the Deck as well.
- Navigation is a lot smoother now.
- New KDE, new touchscreen gestures
- You can now disable all kinds of compositing and just deal with the tearing for the sake of lower input latency.
- More fan fixes
- The DualShock 4 and DualSense touchpads no longer wiggle the mouse cursor when Steam is running.
- And hopefully you won’t be left in silence since the echo-cancellation sink seemed to always take priority.
- Real time beard physics no longer crash the game.
- Now you can have crash free Pantene pro v Geralt.
- The hairwork glitch was amusing if it didn’t crash.
- Maybe fall guys will be stable one day.
- Ass is creed Vikings works with some fuckery.
- Added launcher skip (again) for baldur’s gate 3.
- SteamOS users gotta upgrade to steamos 3.4 if you want to install modorganizer 2. I f you already have it installed you have no problems though
- It’s a giant ass-release
- Steam deck integration amd better gamescope support
- Better UI options you name it
Steam: New Games
- Additional Notes: Linux build is experimental and might not work correctly.
- Caveat emptor
- That red thing got chunked in the trailer
- Gives some doom 3 vibes but the price is right
- What do you think of when I say bodies and cardboard boxes?
- That’s right, racing.
- Tournament mode holds 96 levels, including the campaign levels.
- The thing, it’s missing the thing.
- Seriously, how can you expect people to recommend a multiplayer game when you don’t give people a good way to play it with people
- Big thank you to the devs for sending us keys.
- It is very much what it says on the tin
- You play as a panda and you punch stuff
- Folks looking to punch pandas should look elsewhere. Probably Tekken
- Bionic punchpand-o.
- Test it on a hot dog first, just saying.
Steam: Game Updates
- A whole mess of game customization options to improve/ruin your turtles experience
- Rejoining games now works properly
- VCR o vision
- Better ds5 support
News:
- This is how they killed off Larrabee back in the day.
- Intel says its consumer GPU teams are now fully engaged in getting Battlemage finished and released.
- I can see a future where they end up shipping Battlemage and having it compete against high-end 30 series cards.
- Then they close the consumer division.
- The low & midrange market is there for the taking so who knows.
- It’d be nice if the prices matched the performance, because the very few A380s which show up on eBay are still stupid expensive.
- It’s kinda up in the air at the moment.
- I 100% believe that if Intel sticks with it we could have a legitimate player 3 in a few years
- But if they get sheepish and pull the plug then we can definitely look forward to a future of $600 RTX 6060
- Yeah, I was a bit surprised that it was still in production.
- I still want one of them for tinkering.
- Stupid low power Ryzen APU board can make for some interesting projects.
- Huh, you could actually buy them.
- You can pick up the VCS all-i bundle for $299.
- Taking their time and doing it right.
- The camera boards have been sent off to the PCB fab.
- New display samples from Sharp have arrived along with some slightly upgraded lenses.
- Having a laptop’s worth of hardware built-in will probably help with the portability.
- The battery needs to be on a belt clip.
- Ankle clip.
- There’s the .sln file again.
- I look forward to the clever Linuxy peeps finally porting it to a more penguin friendly build system.
- Gotta add quick saves for maximum scummage
- There’s already a MR for initial linux build support
- I want a working engine reimplementation for Outlaws, the original game is all kinds of b0rked on Linux the moment you open the Options menu.
- Cross process rendering is now working which now means that stuff like chrome just works
- They’re also splitting it into the windows pe and Unix portion as prep work for getting upstreamed
- I wonder how close we are to this just being shipped and enabled in vanilla wine cuz that would be a huge knife in the chest of X

Game: Princess Ruby
Webzone: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2195050/Princess_Ruby/
Devel: Creative Distractions
Engine: Unity
Price: £5.89 / $6.99 / $8.99
Wazzat: Princess Ruby is a 2D Platformer aimed at young children. Play as a princess and run, jump and sometimes ride a unicorn through each level. Dress up how you want, change your hairstyle and the colors of your costume.
Mandatory Disclosure: Dev sent us keys on Curator Connect
Launch/Looks/Sounds/Control
- The Linux build has some issues on Nvidia.
- Like only running at fullscreen without bonus launch glyphs.
- The 3060 can manage 24fps at 2160p so it was a bit cinematic.
- 1080p windowed bumped this up to 60.
- Smashed that Proton button and the 3060 was able to keep this graphical juggernaut at 60 @ 2160p no problem.
- Cloud saves, son.
- Xbox 1sx1 controller worked out of the box.
- B button =’s back in a menu, fix this.
Fun?
- I played until I was able to ride on the WAR unicorn.
- It’s a bit OP.
- This took about 30 minutes but I was speed running to keep myself amused.
- Princess Ruby is serviceable as a platformer.
- You jump on things and they die.
- You bump into things you lose health.
- You fall into things and you lose health and a wee bit of progress.
- Level design is varied and the F&F7 glass smashing got a chuckle out of me.
- The platforming challenges scaled appropriately.
- At the end of the levels you are awarded new outfits.
- It has everything you would expect from a game that was made for a kid.
- Because it was.
Launch/Looks/Sounds/Control
- Launches OOTB
- No windowed mode and it won’t remember your resolution settings
- It does respect -screen-fullscreen 0 -screen-height 1080 -screen-width 1920 but it won’t see your existing save file
- Controller works out of the box
- Graphics are stock unity but it gets the point across.
- There is only one music track.
Fun?
- It’s a perfectly innocuous platformer
- I’d say it sits squarely in between sonic the hedgehog and mario
- And yeah, the platforming is solid enough. It’s pretty forgiving with some of the jumps, but it’s aimed at young children
- It does have a co-op mode. I don’t think i’m gonna rag on it too much for not having online multiplayer
- And yeah, this will probably buy you about 30-45 minutes of quiet which may very well be worth the asking price
Launch/Looks/Sounds/Controlfed
- Launches out of the box
- Holds 144 at 2560×1440 on the desktop
- Holds 60 at 1280×800 on the Deck.
- I’m pretty sure I’ve heard those background tracks before.
- The princess is somewhere on the way down the Uncanny Valley
- The little smile she does when the level ends is equal parts creepy and inadvertently hilarious.
- Controllers work, I played all of my in-game time with the Alpakka except for the 3 or 4 minutes I fired up on the Deck to see if it worked.
Fun?
- I’m not the target audience.
- In fact, if you go to the Steam page for Princess Ruby, you can see the Dev and the target audience.
- Compound that with the fact that I’m done with platformers for the sake of platforming, and I think you can guess the amount of chairs it’s gonna walk away with.
- I will say though, I have seen and played many platformers built on Unity which were made by groups of people which didn’t play anywhere near as well as Princess Ruby
- On a technical level, you get full marks!
- The controls are tight, the character only moves when you tell her to and it doesn’t really hold your hand much.
- It is fairly easy even on Hard, but it doesn’t take control away from the player for the sake of explaining the new mechanics as they become relevant.
- There was the occasional weirdness with the jump pads, but I’ve seen that happen in AAA video games so you know. Fair enough!
Verdict:
Hate Mail:
- I went back and listened to it. I’m pretty sure I just said five dudes
- Now I want five soups though
